Mid-Semester Grades
Every first-semester student will have a mid-semester review when your instructors are asked to submit satisfactory or unsatisfactory grades for each of your courses. These grades can be an early indicator of your performance in your classes. If you find yourself with an unsatisfactory grade, you should meet with your academic advisor as well as the instructor/s to develop an academic plan for success!
Checkstops
A checkstop will prevent you from registering for classes and means that you need to follow up with a particular office to complete some missing paperwork or task. It is important that you check your records through MyUB to find and take care of checkstops before it is time for you to register.
Mandatory Advisement
An “A” checkstop will be placed on the records of all first semester freshmen. You will be required to meet with your academic advisor before you register for classes for the following semester. In addition to discussing the current semester’s progress and your ultimate academic goals, you and your advisor will plan your next semester’s classes. Although you were registered for your first semester at UB by your academic advisor, it is now your responsibility to know when and how to pick out classes and register. You will need to know when to register and how to register.
Academic Responsibility
It is important that you know and fully understand your academic responsibilities and know how to be successful at UB. Be sure to utilize available resources by taking advantage of free life and learning workshops on time management and study skills, and becoming actively involved in your academics and student life here at UB.
