The General Education requirements at UB include the demonstration of proficiency in a language other than English. Most students meet this requirement by completing a second-semester or transition language course.
Students in the following schools and majors outside the College of Arts & Sciences are exempt from the language requirement:
School of Architecture and Planning
School of Engineering and Applied Sciences (except Computer Science)
School of Management
School of Nursing
School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences
School of Public Health and Health Professions
Biochemical Pharmacology
Bioinformatics (Biophysics and Computer Science concentrations)
Biomedical Sciences
Biotechnology
Medical Technology
Nuclear Medicine Technology
The following majors in the College of Arts & Sciences are exempt from the language requirement:
BFA in Art
BFA in Dance
BFA in Music Theatre
BFA in Theatre
Bioinformatics (Biology and Mathematics concentrations)
Informatics
Medicinal Chemistry
A student who completes more than one major and/or more than one degree program, and one of whose majors is exempt from the foreign language requirement, is exempt from the language requirement for all majors. However, if one of the majors has an additional language requirement, the student must fulfill that major's requirement.
