Information for Incoming Transfer Students Fall 2018

Preparing for Orientation
If you have declared a major within the College of Arts & Sciences, paid your tuition deposit, completed your Orientation Data Form, and submitted your medical / immunization records, you need to contact our office to arrange an appointment with an academic advisor.

Making an Appointment with an Advisor
Please call us at (716) 645-6883 and identify yourself as a new transfer student. We will arrange a meeting with an academic advisor, either in person or over the phone, to discuss your classes for the upcoming term. The advisor will review the articulation of your transfer courses (i.e., how they will count at UB) and your Advisement Report, help you choose courses for the new term, and take you through the enrollment process so you may then register yourself in classes.

Preparing for your Appointment
Before your appointment you should review online information for new transfers, including information about registering for classes and UB's general education requirements (called the 'UB Curriculum'). You should have your printed Advisement Report ready at the time of your appointment. If the appointment is by phone and you are able to go online while using the phone, please be prepared to do so. After the appointment you will have all the information you need to register yourself in classes for the upcoming semester.

What to ask during your Appointment
During the advisement appointment you should tell your advisor about all the AP classes and exams you took, even if UB does not yet have the scores. If you have not previously arranged to have your AP exam scores sent to UB, please do so as soon as possible. They do NOT transfer from your previous school! Also be sure your advisor knows about all courses in progress if you have not already noted them on your Data Form.

  • After you register for classes you can review your required textbooks online through the HUB system and, if you desire, purchase them from any source. You may choose to purchase textbooks after arriving at UB.
  • You should be signed up to attend one of the Orientation programs for new transfer students. If you are not signed up, please contact the Orientation, Transition & Parent Programs office at (716) 645-6125.
  • Please contact us as soon as possible to make an advisement appointment. If you have any questions about the process, call us at (716) 645-6883 during regular business hours. We look forward to working with you!
